Favourites from 2021 from The Cozy Quilter

The end of the year is a good time to look back at what we have accomplished in the past 12 months.  Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs hosts and annual "Best of..." party and so I will be linking this post up to her blog.  I have done lots of machine sewing, hand stitching and knitting this year and it is hard to pick out which projects were my favourites.  Here is my best effort!

1. My favourite hand stitching project was "Love Birds"--a counted cross stitch picture that I made for a friend's daughter and her husband ...

October UFO's and PomPoms! from The Cozy Quilter

I finally made my September block for the Elgin Piecemakers Guild Comfort quilt project this past week! We were each to make a bird block with a gray background.  We had plans to meet outside in September in someone's backyard but it poured rain the night of our meeting and it got cancelled so now, the bird blocks will be handed in with the October blocks this month.  I had already made all of my blocks for the rest of the year in the spring so this was the last one to make for 2021.  I used a Riley ...

Hand and Machine Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

Welcome to my weekly stitching and knitting report. At the last minute, I decided to make a Black block for my 13th block for my RSC quilt this year. I had lots of fun 2.5" squares to use for this block!

Many of you were wondering last week how I was going to use 13 blocks instead of 12 in this quilt top.  Well, you don't have to wait any longer.  Here is the almost finished quilt top.  I still need to add a white border around the entire top. Then, it will go in the pile of ...

So Close to the Finish Line from The Cozy Quilter

The annual Quilt Canada conference took place online over the past few days and while I have been watching the presentations and quilt shows, I have been stitching away on Love Birds. I finished off the green leaves, both dark and light, and I have started on the bride bird.

I am very close to being finished all the stitching on this project...a wedding gift for a friend's daughter and her husband. (They got married in November 2020.) I have been working on Love Birds since Christmas.

The pineapple blocks are all done!  Each block will finish at ...

Two Finishes and some BOM Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

It has been a while since I have had a finished project to share on my blog (besides placemats), and this week, I have two!  This blue colour block quilt is made from 2.5" squares from my blue scrap bin.  I found some really fun crayon fabric for the backing and even added a label already, even though I have not written on it yet.  This quilt will be set aside for a future baby gift. Most of the fabrics repeat in the quilt so lots of fun to be had for some little one trying to find the ...

Placemat Production from The Cozy Quilter

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, aunts, grandmothers and others who nurture their friends and families!

I have been working hard this week to finish off my 12 placemats for Meals on Wheels.  I used up some of my batting scraps strips, zigzagged together for this project--the bin is still full...sigh. I fear that all of my scrap bins are bottomless, somewhat like Mary Poppin's duffle bag. The scraps for these three placemats are leftovers from a quilt I made for my aunt a couple of years ago.  The placemats are about 12” by 18”.

 I ...

Spring Sewing from The Cozy Quilter

Well, winter did not rear its head this week, thankfully, even though it was a bit chilly for a couple of days.

I managed a few hours in the sewing room this week and completed two more placemats for Meals on Wheels.  I have three more tops made and they will be quilted and bound this coming week.  I have fabric picked out for the rest of the dozen placemats I will be making and hope to finish them soon as well.  I am the type of person who likes to get things done ahead of time so I don ...

Sewing My Scraps and some Slow Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

The colours for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this month are light and medium/bright blue so I made two more blocks for my RSC challenge quilt for 2021. I used 17 different blues in each block.

Here are the five blocks I have made so far this year.

One of the guilds I belong to, the Elgin Piecemakers, has taken on a new charity project this year.  We have 20 members and we have each agreed to make 12 placemats before November to be distributed to all of the Meals on Wheels recipients in our county.  I got started on ...

A Finished Quilt Top from The Cozy Quilter

I pulled out various colours to use for sashing for this blue colour block quilt including orange, golden yellow and red.  As you can see, red won!  The sashing was cut 1.5" wide and finishes at 1".  I will have to piece the backing of this quilt and I will likely add some medium blue solid binding when it is quilted.

I have a bunch of quilts ready for walking foot quilting, most of which are already pin basted...I need a chunk of time and also must clear off my sewing table to do this.  This is difficult ...

Slow Sunday Stitching and a Couple of Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

I finally got back to working on my Modern Sampler BOM blocks this week.  I was four blocks behind before this week and now I just have three more to do to catch up!  I have a bin with my fabrics and block patterns in it so it is out on the sewing table now so I can get them done! My focus fabric has glasses on it and then I am using orange and blue stripes and dots for the other fabrics with the gray hash dots for the background.

I put another blue colour block together as a ...

Pineapple Log Cabin Class from The Cozy Quilter

This morning, I took a pineapple log cabin class through the Oxford Quilt Guild with Barb V. at Fun With Barb.  She was our Zoom speaker back in November and several members of the guild admired her pineapple log cabin quilt made with 1/2" logs. Someone on the executive suggested a class and so we invited Barb to return today for a Zoom class.  I contemplated fabric options for the quilt all week and, finally, just before class this morning, decided on orange and bright green scraps with a white solid background. Soon, I had enough scraps pressed and ...

QuiltCon Together: Class #4 and the Mini Swap from The Cozy Quilter

Once I got started on my "Put a Ring On It" quilt (one of my classes at QuiltCon), I just wanted to keep sewing until I finished the quilt top.  I sewed while I listened to panel discussions and some of the lectures.  I have to admit that trying to do two things at once led to a few mistakes which meant my trusty seam ripper saw some action this week...  Here is my finished quilt top.  I need to pick out some backing from my stash and figure out how I am going to quilt this wallhanging.

 My 4th ...

This and That from The Cozy Quilter

I made steady progress this week on "Love Birds", a counted cross stitch picture I am making for C and M for their wedding which took place late in 2020. My goal this past week was to finish the leaves and start the next large blue flower.  Mission accomplished!

Here is a closer up view of the section I worked on this week.

It may take a week or two to finish the blue flower.  There are a lot of stitches in it!

My friend, A, celebrated a birthday this week so I made her a zippered pouch using some ...

Yellow Blocks and some Slow Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

Yellow is the colour for this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I decided to use yellow and gray in my Colour block quilt this month, which means that this project works for both challenges. I had already cut lots of yellow 2.5" squares and only had to cut some more gray ones to make these blocks.

I have been working on some gifts this week, which cannot be revealed yet, so I used these blocks as my leaders and enders. Soon, I had 4 blocks. The gray fabrics have all been purchased in the last 3-4 years but some ...

A Week of Slow Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

My daughter and I have logged many hours working on our embroidery/cross stitch projects this past week.  We are staying home and enjoying several slow activities including puzzles, board games and reading. Finn, her dog, loves having everyone together in one place and can often be found curled up on someone's lap or beside them on the couch. Sometimes, he decides it is time to play rather than stitch.

This counted cross stitch picture, "Love Birds",  is a wedding gift for a friend's daughter and her husband.  I hope to have it done in time for their ...

The Gifts of Christmas from The Cozy Quilter

Our daughter has been very busy over the last few months, working on gifts for us and her grandmother. I knew about the bee picture for her grandmother, but had no idea she was making something for us as well.  "Home for the Holidays" was a stitch-along at the Barmy Fox on Instagram.  Each day for 3 1/2 weeks, there were new stitches to learn and add to her picture. It looks great on our mantle with my little gnome. She learned several new stitches including the whipped backstitch, the feather stitch, the open and closed fly stitch, padded ...
